Since its inception in 2004, Monster Hunter has sold millions of copies worldwide and has already established itself as one of the industry's cornerstone franchises. To commemorate its 20th anniversary, Capcom revealed the remaster of a Nintendo 3DS classic and the port of its sequel.
In mid-February, the Japanese company shared the reveal trailer and the first official details of the remaster of Monster Hunter Stories, which originally debuted on the handheld console in 2016. At the time of the announcement, the release date was not disclosed.
Monster Hunter Stories has a release date; the sequel is coming to PS4
Fortunately, the Japanese company took advantage of the second day of the Capcom Highlights event to confirm that the remaster of the modern Nintendo 3DS classic will arrive on June 14th for PlayStation 4, PC, and Nintendo Switch. This new version features HD graphics, English and Japanese voice dubbing for the new off-screen voices, a museum with over 200 pieces of artwork, and additional content that was previously only available in Japan.
The good news doesn't end there, as Capcom announced another big surprise during the special event. Specifically, it revealed that the sequel Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin, which originally debuted for Nintendo Switch and PC in 2021, will finally make its way to PlayStation 4, meaning PS5 users can also enjoy it through compatibility.
The best part? The port is just around the corner. In particular, PS4 fans can play the second installment of this spin-off series starting on June 14th, the same day the remaster of the first Monster Hunter Stories debuts.
Capcom announced that pre-orders for both titles will be available soon. In the meantime, it's worth noting that Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin will be sold in two editions: Standard and Deluxe. The former includes only the game, while the latter offers additional cosmetic items.
Unfortunately, the company refrained from sharing information about Monster Hunter Wilds, the new main installment in the series.
