This week, Activision Blizzard was the target of a hack on its social networks. The attackers managed to wrest control of its X account and do their own thing. They posted a message to promote an alleged studio cryptocurrency along with an image of Crash Bandicoot.
As you can imagine, it was all a hoax to try to scam fans of the popular studio and its franchises. Some time later, the company confirmed that it had already regained control of its X account and that it had launched an investigation into the matter.
Hackers take control of Activision Blizzard's X account
In a surprise move, Activision Blizzard's X account posted a message that baffled gamers. It touted a cryptocurrency called ATVI in an alleged collaboration with Solana, a blockchain platform.
The token exists on that platform; however, it is not related in any way to Activision Blizzard. The price of the coin increased a bit after the hack, suggesting that some unwary people unfortunately fell for the hoax.
A few hours later, Activision Blizzard posted another message informing that it had already recovered its X account. It also stated that it had launched an investigation into the matter, as it wants to get to the bottom of the matter so that this situation does not happen again.
"Thank you for your patience. We have regained control of the @ATVI_AB account. We take security seriously and we plan to investigate what occurred to avoid situations such as these in the future," the company commented.
It is known that only Activision Blizzard's X account was compromised for a few hours. There are no further details at this time, as the studio has not shared additional information about its ongoing investigation.
