While fans eagerly await the return of the official Dragon Ball Super anime, the manga never stopped, presenting original stories in recent years. The one responsible for continuing the adventures of Goku and his friends is Toyotaro, apprentice and successor of Akira Toriyama; however, the original creator of the franchise also participated actively. What was his role?
The legendary mangaka, who passed away in early March, worked closely with Toyotaro on the manga for the new series. Although he didn't draw or write the dialogues, he was responsible for creating some character designs and crafting the overall story arcs.

What Was Akira Toriyama's Involvement in the Super Hero Arc in the Manga?
Before we proceed, be aware that we will briefly discuss the most recent events in the official Dragon Ball Super manga.
Starting from chapter 88, the adaptation of the movie Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero began. Although the paper version is very similar to what fans saw on the big screen, there are some interesting differences. Firstly, the arc begins with a prologue focused on Goten and Trunks and ends with the battle between Goku and Gohan.
To coincide with the release of episode 103 of the manga, the editorial team of V-Jump magazine interviewed Toyotaro. There, the creator revealed that Akira Toriyama wrote the main story adapting the events of the film, so the changes were also his idea. Additionally, he confirms that the franchise creator planned the epilogue featuring the showdown between Beast Gohan and Ultra Instinct Goku.
"The prologue from chapters 88-90 was a story created from the things Toriyama wanted to do with his corrections. But of course, the scenario of episodes 91-100 with the main plot of the movie, and even the epilogue of chapters 101-103, were written by him," commented Toyotaro during the interview.
Furthermore, the current manga overseer reveals that he added some points in the dialogues and the general plot, but the overall concept comes from Akira Toriyama's pen.
In chapter 103, titled "A Legacy for the Future," Beast Gohan surprised Goku, Vegeta, and Broly with his immense power. A tribute to Akira Toriyama was paid on the last page.
