Recently, a popular show produced by MAPPA surprised fans by faithfully recreating one of the most iconic moments of Dragon Ball Z and featuring a brief cameo by Goku. As expected, the unexpected easter egg went viral, and the scene began circulating on social media.

Oblivion Battery References Dragon Ball Z with a Goku Cameo
We're talking about Oblivion Battery, the anime adapting the manga of the same name by Eko Mikawa. For those unfamiliar, just know that its story revolves around baseball.
Undoubtedly, the comedic and sports action theme of this animated series departs from the dizzying fights we see in Akira Toriyama's work, making the unexpected cameo by the protagonist of Dragon Ball Z even more surprising and unexpected.
During the third episode of Oblivion Battery, there's a scene where the catcher Kei Kaname shouts with all his might and transforms into a Super Saiyan while a massive Ki explosion shakes the clouds and illuminates the sky. What's cool is that he actually transforms into Goku, as even the drawing style changes to mimic the art of Toei Animation.

According to the ComicBook portal, MAPPA studio received official approval to make the parody. The scene in question is the work of animator and illustrator Shun Sawai, who is a big fan of Dragon Ball. That's why director Nakazono assigned him that task in the first place.
Fans praised the brilliant easter egg of Oblivion Battery on social media and applauded the fact that the scene faithfully recreates 2 panels from Akira Toriyama's original manga. Undoubtedly, a beautiful tribute to one of the most important creatives of the last century.
