Today is a very important day for all Dragon Ball fans, as it is Goku Day. As expected, there was news and announcements related to Akira Toriyama's popular saga. Among them a surprise for players and TCG lovers of the series.
Through the franchise's official website, the first glimpse of Dragon Ball Super Divers, a new digital card video game that will include new TCG rules and, of course, never-before-seen collectible cards featuring the iconic characters everyone loves, was revealed.
The announcement was made as part of Goku Day, which is celebrated every year on May 9 for a simple reason. In Japan, the calendar is read starting with the month and then the day. The kanji for the number 5 (month) is pronounced “go” and the kanji for the number 9 (day) is pronounced “ku”. When reading the date, it sounds like “Goku”.
Dragon Ball Super Divers is the new game in Akira Toriyama's saga
Bandai explained that Dragon Ball Super Divers will offer a different experience than the current Super Dragon Ball Heroes TCG video game, and will make fans' dreams of fighting alongside their favorite characters from the franchise come true.
The arcade game will use new hardware and will feature a large screen to make the experience as immersive as possible. It is also important to mention that the new title will mean the end of Super Dragon Ball Heroes, which will conclude its development when its successor debuts.
Featuring new rules and cards, collectible cards from Super Dragon Ball Heroes will not work on the new machine. Thus, fans will have to start a new collection. Dragon Ball Super Divers does not yet have a confirmed release date.
Unfortunately, this new title is aimed only at gamers in Japan, who will be able to enjoy it in various arcade centers. For now, it is not known if it will be distributed in other regions. Below is its first trailer:
