In March emerged reports about the closure of Deviation Games, a studio that was born in 2021 thanks to excreativos of Call of Duty. Sony and PlayStation were interested in the team and decided to invest in it to bet on a new IP that was in their hands.
However, problems soon followed, as there were major layoffs. Subsequently, there was talk of the company's closure. Now, recent reports claim that Sony hired several former Deviation Games creatives to form a new studio.
PlayStation to form new studio with ex-devs of Deviation Games
Michael Anthony, former Deviation Games developer, surprised gamers with a post he made on LinkedIn. He stated that several former members of the studio decided to join together to form a new studio at Sony and work on a new IP.
“Hey, I hear that a lot of previous Deviation Games employees have setup their own studio at Sony working on an undisclosed new IP,” he wrote on the platform,” Anthony stated without elaborating further on the type of project the new studio, whose name is a mystery, is working on.
Due to the track record of Deviation Games' developers, there is speculation that the new PlayStation and Sony studio is working on a shooter. However, the companies have not confirmed the team's existence or that of its new IP.
“All the people I see working there that have signed up are top-class developers and hope that you can create a top-class new IP with your studio that hopefully gives you all the time you need to create a quality product and not have to deal with red tape from previous projects,” the creative added.
Originally Deviation Games was also working on a new IP with “a lot of action and a lot of energy.” The project was never revealed, but it is not ruled out that some of its concepts will be recovered for the new studio's game.
