Xbox hardware sales plummeted recently; however, we know that the company will continue to bet on new consoles in the future. Thanks to various leaks, we partially know some of their plans for their next console.
Reports from months ago suggested that the next-generation Xbox would debut as late as 2028. However, new information indicates that the system will arrive earlier than planned and will be accompanied by a major game for its launch.
The new Xbox could arrive in a few years with a new Call of Duty
Hope, renowned and reputable Call of Duty dataminer, talked about the next-gen Xbox and shared information on when it will arrive. According to his sources, the next console from Microsoft will hit the market in late 2026, which is 2 years earlier than previously said.
What is interesting is that Microsoft would take advantage of the purchase of Activision Blizzard to launch its new hardware with a new installment of Call of Duty. Hope claimed that the said year's game is in the hands of Infinity Ward.
Microsoft's alleged plan makes all the sense in the world, as Call of Duty is one of the most popular and profitable franchises in the industry. Moreover, it was one of the main reasons for shelling out billions of dollars for Activision.
However, it is important to stress that Hope's report is just a rumor. Other sources have assured that Microsoft will launch 2 consoles in 2028: a desktop and a handheld. In addition, we know that the hardware will bet big on the cloud.
Leaked Microsoft documents revealed that the company wants to move full speed ahead to its next generation hardware. For that reason, there is a chance that the new Xbox will arrive in 2026 and not 2028. We will have to wait to know more about it.
