Rumors claimed that the title was going to bet on extensive and open areas

Players still have many doubts about Gears of War: E-Day, mainly due to several leaks of the project that surfaced weeks ago. One of them claimed that the new title would change the formula of the saga and would opt for an open-world approach.

Matt Searcy, the creative director of the saga, discussed the topic in a recent interview. Fans who feared a drastic change in the franchise can rest assured, as the creative assured that they will opt for a more linear experience that will adhere to the early titles of the series.

According to some insiders, the new Gears of War was going to take the concept of the semi-open areas of Gears 5 to a new level. There were even sources claiming that the title would fully embrace the open-world formula, but now we know that won't be the case.

In a conversation with GamesRadar+, Searcy commented that the saga is characterized by its epic moments that arise thanks to its linearity. In this regard, the outlet reports that Gears of War: E-Day will not be open world and will follow the classic formula that fans love.

Furthermore, it asserts that the semi-open maps of Gears 5 will be a thing of the past and won't be present, so Gears of War: E-Day will focus on linearity, which is good news for many fans of the popular Xbox franchise.

"We've worked on Gears now in our studio for like, 10 years. We've got a really good handle on things that work really well in gears, as well as like things you want to keep pushing and trying. We know for sure that Gears, you know, has those linear, epic moments in them. We've done a bunch of them, we know how to do that. And we will absolutely be doing more of that," stated Searcy.
