The rumors were true! Capcom confirmed this morning that the original trilogy of Resident Evil will have a re-release on PC. The best part is that the company will take the opportunity to make some adjustments and improvements to these classic games that are so important to survival horror.
The good news for fans is that they no longer have to wait to relive the beginnings of the saga, as the original version of the first Resident Evil is now available on GOG. Additionally, they will only have to wait a little longer to enjoy Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3: Nemesis.
Resident Evil classics will arrive on GOG with enhancements
Capcom and GOG want to preserve the franchise's legacy, so they now offer the 1996 Resident Evil DRM-free and with a few enhancements. According to the details, the title retains all its original content and has improved compatibility with modern systems. Thus, it runs smoothly on Windows 10 and 11 devices.
This will ensure that fans can enjoy the original experience without any worries. Additionally, Capcom added quality-of-life improvements such as new rendering options, support for four languages (English, German, French, and Japanese), as well as support for modern controllers and more.
As is consistent with GOG releases, the title is offered without DRM protection. As mentioned, Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3: Nemesis will also be coming to the PC store; however, there is no exact release date for them yet. We only know they will be available soon.
The companies accompanied the announcement with a nostalgic trailer featuring the iconic live-action introduction of Resident Evil. The title is available for $5.10 USD. Additionally, there is a $15.13 USD bundle that will grant access to all three classic titles.
