In mid-2022, Sony confirmed that it would adapt some of PlayStation's most popular franchises to television. Thus, Netflix began working on a Horizon series along with Steve Blackman, the producer of The Umbrella Academy.
After months without news about the production, there is bad news for fans of the Guerrilla Games franchise. Blackman was recently accused of having toxic, manipulative behavior and inciting harassment. According to a report, this will cause the Horizon series to remain on hold and could even be canceled.
The Horizon series on Netflix could be canceled
Rolling Stone published an extensive report this week on the accusations against Blackman. Various people who worked with the showrunner on The Umbrella Academy had a bad impression and recommended not collaborating with the creative.
The outlet had access to a complaint made to a human resources department, where Blackman is accused of misconduct and harassment. Additionally, it is said that he creates an environment of distrust, takes credit for others' work, and has been sexist, homophobic, and transphobic.
Blackman denied the accusations; however, it seems that the workers' complaints and the report have already had an effect. According to Cheyenne Roundtree, the author of the article, several projects that the creative had in production at Netflix will not move forward.
Among them is an original series called Orbital and the adaptation of Horizon. At the time of writing, neither Netflix nor PlayStation have commented on the possible cancellation of their series, so it is unclear whether the project will continue or not.
There is a possibility that the series will pause for a moment in search of a new showrunner, as it is very likely that the companies want to stay away from this controversy because of all it implies. As for the series itself, rumors claim it is called Horizon 2074 and will be a prequel to Aloy's adventures. We will have to be patient and wait to see what will happen with this adaptation.
