Analysts and industry experts continue to give their opinions on the price increase of Xbox Game Pass and what the future holds for the popular service. George Jijiashvili of Omdia recently shared his opinion, and his statements may concern more than one Xbox fan.
From his perspective, price increases for Xbox Game Pass were inevitable and it is certain that there will be more increases in the future as the service continues to change due to Microsoft's decisions.
On the other hand, Joost Van Dreunen of Parsec Gaming is convinced that commercials will soon arrive on the service as part of a new subscription plan. He believes that Microsoft will experiment and introduce ads in various phases.
Experts anticipate more price increases and commercials on Xbox Game Pass
Jijiashvili believes that the recent price increases on Xbox Game Pass were expected and inevitable for Microsoft. He added that the company seeks to increase the average revenue per user with the imminent arrival of Call of Duty to the subscription service. Thus, the analyst expects more price increases in the future.
For his part, Van Dreunen claims that the next step for Xbox Game Pass is the incorporation of commercials. He believes that Microsoft will introduce them subtly in a cheaper plan and then make them a bit more invasive for the user experience.
The analyst thinks that ads will arrive in the near future on the service, first as banners within the Xbox and Game Pass menus. He believes that the second phase of the project will be to introduce them during the loading screens of games.
"Finally, and assuming that this works out well for its ecosystem, Microsoft is likely to make an acquisition in the ad tech space to acquire the capability to both facilitate programmatic ads and a centralized inventory using existing ad industry metrics and tool sets. This last component is obviously the furthest out," said the analyst.
At the time of writing, Microsoft has not confirmed further price increases or the arrival of commercials on Xbox Game Pass. However, more price hikes seem inevitable due to their business model. On the other hand, we know that the tech giant has explored the possibility of placing ads on Xbox.
