Microsoft and Xbox have just shared some bad news, as they announced that the price of Xbox Series X|S will increase in one country. Fans of the brand are worried, fearing that the measure will eventually affect their own markets.
On the other hand, they believe it is a big mistake by Microsoft, as the consoles will increase in price in a country where the brand has struggled to win over players for decades. We are talking about Japan.
Xbox Series X|S prices to rise in Japan
Currently, Xbox Series X is offered in Japan for ¥59,978 JPY (approximately $408 USD at the current exchange rate); however, the console will soon have a ¥7000 JPY increase, bringing the cost to ¥66,978 JPY ($456 USD).
On the other hand, the 512 GB Xbox Series S will go from ¥37,978 JPY ($258 USD) to ¥44,578 JPY ($303 USD), an increase of ¥6600 JPY. Finally, the 1 GB Xbox Series S will go from ¥44,578 JPY ($303 USD) to ¥49,978 JPY ($340 USD), an increase of ¥5400 JPY.
These adjustments will take effect from August 15th and, for now, will not apply to other countries or regions. Microsoft explained that the price adjustment of their consoles is due to “changes in market conditions in local prices.”
Players and fans of the brand are somewhat puzzled by this move, as it is no secret that Xbox sales in Japan have always been very low. For this reason, many believe this will worsen the situation, as it is the second price increase for these systems in the country.
