Hideaki Itsuno is one of the most prominent creatives at Capcom, as he is the director of acclaimed franchises such as Devil May Cry and Dragon’s Dogma. This will change very soon, as the developer confirmed that he will leave the company after a long 30-year career.
In a statement, Itsuno announced that he will leave Capcom this month. Starting in September, he will begin working on new projects in “a new environment,” of which there are no details yet. Fans of Devil May Cry and Dragon’s Dogma thanked the creative for all his contributions to the industry and the franchises. They also expressed their concern, as they do not know what will happen to the direction of both sagas.
Hideaki Itsuno says goodbye to Capcom but will remain in the industry
“At the end of August 2024, I will be leaving Capcom after 30 years and five months. Thank you for your long-term support of the games and characters I have been responsible for. I hope you will continue to support Capcom’s games and characters.
“From September, I will start developing a new game in a new environment. I hope to create fun, beautiful games that are as memorable as, or even more memorable than, the ones I have created so far,” Itsuno stated in his farewell message.
The creative is one of the studio’s most important veterans. His career began in 1994 with titles like Star Gladiator and Rival Schools: United by Fate. Later, he worked on a significant number of fighting games, on the most recent Devil May Cry games, and on both installments of Dragon's Dogma.
For now, Itsuno has not revealed what his new project will be or where he will work on it. For their part, Capcom has not said who will take over the creative's role as director of the franchises that were under his care.
