Despite being one of the most prominent brands in the industry, Xbox lacks some major games on its consoles, including several entries from Final Fantasy, one of the most popular JRPG sagas in history and a franchise with significant industry legacy.
Xbox players have longed to play various installments like Final Fantasy VII Remake and Final Fantasy XVI, titles that remain PlayStation exclusives. Additionally, games such as Final Fantasy Pixel Remasters have not made their way to Microsoft systems for unknown reasons.
According to multiple sources, this situation will change sooner or later, as all the missing Final Fantasy titles on Xbox are supposedly set to receive their respective ports in the future.
Final Fantasy VII Remake and more franchise titles may finally come to Xbox
According to Jez Corden, a journalist at Windows Central, Square Enix already has plans to release key Final Fantasy games on Xbox. Recently, Microsoft consoles received Final Fantasy XIV, but several other entries have been delayed for years.
This means that Final Fantasy VII Remake, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, the third part of that game, Final Fantasy XVI, and Final Fantasy Pixel Remasters could eventually make their way to Xbox consoles.
The source speculates that Microsoft might surprise fans with an announcement related to the series during their presentation at the Tokyo Game Show 2024. However, nothing is confirmed at this point. Corden didn’t provide any hints as to when the games might arrive on Xbox but made it clear it will happen sooner or later. It’s worth noting that this could be possible thanks to a recent shift in Square Enix's strategy.
As a reminder, several of the studio’s games have not met sales expectations. As a result, in May of this year, Square Enix confirmed that it would now focus on multiplatform releases. The goal is for their most popular franchises and AAA titles to reach Nintendo, Xbox, PlayStation, and PC systems.
"In terms of HD titles, the Group will aggressively pursue a multiplatform strategy that includes Nintendo, PlayStation, Xbox, and PC platforms. Especially concerning major franchises and AAA titles, including catalog titles, an environment will be created in which more customers can enjoy our titles," the studio previously stated.
This isn’t the first time we’ve heard reports about various Final Fantasy games coming to Xbox. Therefore, it's best to treat this information as just a rumor for now and wait for potential announcements from Microsoft and Square Enix.
