While some might think it's premature to talk about the next-generation consoles, the reality is that the current hardware proposal, along with the development processes at this atypical stage, can't sustain much longer. All indications are that both Sony and Microsoft are already working to launch their next systems as soon as possible. In the case of the Japanese company, rumors about the PS6 have already started, and the most recent one is quite interesting.
There are 2 SoCs in development for PlayStation 6, reveals reliable source: What would the next generation of Sony look like?
According to the insider and renowned tech informant "KeplerL2" (via Insider-Gaming), there are 2 systems on chip (SoC) in development for Sony's next generation of consoles, what we unofficially know today as PlayStation 6. According to the sources, the Japanese company would offer 2 console models in its next gaming concept.
It is not known whether they would opt for a launch model similar to the Xbox Series X|S or if they would release a home console and a portable one. According to the insider, the second option makes the most sense given the rise of portable devices. They also noted that one of the 2 models would be more affordable for the public. In this sense, Sony would be motivated by the positive response to the PlayStation Portal, despite it being hardware that does not run games natively, and due to the insistence from its audience to bring back a console like the PSP or PS VITA.
Recently, information about the PS6 and the start of its development process was leaked. According to reputable sources, AMD competed with Intel and Broadcom to manufacture the CPU that will power the console. The American company secured the agreement with Sony over Intel because, even though Intel's proposal was higher in monetary terms, it fell short due to its stance on backward compatibility. Thus, Sony and AMD will work together again for the PS6, as the Japanese company is very interested in ensuring that the console is compatible with PS5 and PS4 games.
Regarding the recent rumor, it is speculated that Microsoft Gaming also has a similar plan for its next generation of Xbox, which means a combo with a home console and a portable one, following the failure of the Xbox Series X|S proposal that did not yield the expected results.
