Although it debuted many years ago, the popularity of Avatar: The Last Airbender remains as strong as ever. The animated series has millions of fans worldwide, which has led to its adaptation into movies, live-action series, and, of course, multiple video games.
There’s great news for players who are fans of Aang and his companions’ adventures, as this morning a new game in the franchise was confirmed. It’s an action RPG being developed by Saber Interactive.
What’s interesting is that it will be a AAA production, making it the most ambitious Avatar: The Last Airbender game to date. Additionally, we know it will offer fans a new story set in the beloved universe.
Avatar: The Last Airbender will have a AAA game for consoles and PC
Saber Interactive revealed that their Avatar: The Last Airbender game is currently in its early stages of development. They also mentioned that it will be the largest title in the franchise's history and that they are working closely with Avatar Studios, a division of Paramount, to offer an experience that will satisfy fans.
Additionally, we know the action RPG will tell a new story set thousands of years before the original series. For this reason, players will control a new Avatar that has never appeared in the franchise.
The studio stated that the game will feature dynamic combat, challenges, and a vibrant world. Of course, throughout the adventure, it will be possible to master all four elements. The title is in development for undisclosed consoles and PC. As of now, there is no estimated release date.
“At Saber, we are all truly fans of the [intellectual property] we work with. Our team members are some of the most devoted, passionate creatives out there and it’s an honor to join forces with Avatar Studios and Paramount Games to further expand the Avatar Legends universe in video games,” commented Josh Austin, development director at Saber Interactive.
For his part, Doug Rosen, Vice President of Games and Emerging Media at Paramount, said that the game will be an immersive experience that expands the reach of the franchise. He also highlighted the work of their partner in charge of the development.
“Saber Interactive has a proven track record in bringing [intellectual property]-based games to life, and we are excited to co-fund this AAA title alongside them and let fans experience this world first-hand,” concluded the executive.
