New World of Warcraft Mount Costs More Than Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, But Ironically, It’s a Bargain

Players Haven’t Hesitated to Spend $90 USD on This Unique Opportunity

For many players, purchasing cosmetic content is inconceivable, with some even swearing they’ll never do so. However, others have embraced this practice that began in the 2000s, and the clearest example is an item in World of Warcraft that costs more than a new game but is ironically considered by players to be an unmissable deal.

Blizzard Entertainment recently released a new mount for World of Warcraft: the Trader’s Gilded Brutosaur Mount, which features a harness and gems inspired by the game’s expansions and commemorates the franchise’s 20th anniversary, set to be celebrated on November 23.

"Ride through Azeroth on this magnificent Zandalari beast, accompanied by Morten and Killia. You can now take the auction house and mailbox with you wherever you go!" reads the item description.

Why Is the $90 USD Mount in World of Warcraft Considered a Bargain?

This land mount, compatible with all current and future World of Warcraft characters (excluding World of Warcraft Classic), can only be obtained for $90 USD or $1440 MXN in the official Battle.net store. To put it into perspective, the current game release, Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, costs $70 USD or $1399 MXN on Steam. The mount’s main appeal lies in its unique feature of providing auction house and mailbox access from anywhere.

While non-World of Warcraft players may find this absurd, much of the game’s community views it as a bargain.

So, how is this possible? Back in 2018, with the Battle for Azeroth expansion, Blizzard released a similar-functioning mount for 5 million gold.

As Eurogamer recalls, players could obtain such an amount of gold for around $500 USD or nearly $670 USD in real money. It was also a limited-time offer, and the only way to obtain it later was through in-game auction house resellers at even higher prices.

For this reason, many players didn’t hesitate to pay $90 USD for the new Trader’s Gilded Brutosaur Mount and lined up in-game to get it as soon as it became available, avoiding the risk of waiting years for a similar mount release. Naturally, there are also players unhappy with the prices of this content, feeling that Blizzard Entertainment's practices are greedy, though they acknowledge that the player base will make the purchase.

If you want to take advantage of this bargain, be aware it’s available until January 6, 2025.
