Dragon Ball: Sparking! ZERO, the latest entry in the Budokai Tenkaichi series, has met fan expectations and built a strong community around it. However, Bandai Namco is aware that some players might break the rules, prompting them to issue a warning.
The game, inspired by Akira Toriyama’s manga, features multiple gameplay modes. One of the most exciting is Custom Battles, where players can create hypothetical scenarios and share them online with the community.
The editor is quite robust, offering many tools to create unique battles with specific rules. Nevertheless, some community members are using mods to enhance this feature, designing even more unusual scenarios. This has displeased the developers.

Dragon Ball: Sparking! ZERO to Penalize Players Using Mods in Custom Battles
The game, developed by Spike Chunsoft, was a hit and sold 3 million copies within 24 hours. Naturally, a thriving modding community has emerged on PC, producing mods ranging from enhanced local multiplayer to new characters.
It seems some mods are usable within the Custom Battles mode. According to players, these mods enable additional functions and unlock unplayable characters, which could compromise gameplay integrity.
In response, the development team announced that they will take action against players who upload battles featuring unauthorized mods. This announcement came via the official Dragon Ball Games account, later confirmed by Bandai Namco’s profile.
“Appropriate security measures will be taken against those who have used any mod system in Dragon Ball: Sparking! ZERO Custom Battles. We recommend immediately deleting any Custom Battle with mods to avoid a ban.”
Based on Bandai Namco’s statement, players who break this rule can avoid a ban by deleting modded content from Custom Battles. Those who ignore the warning may face penalties.
It remains unclear how severe the penalties will be, but it’s likely that fans who upload modded content in Custom Battles will receive a temporary or permanent ban.
While some argue that mods don’t disrupt gameplay, there are a couple of reasons why the Japanese company might want to remove modified battles. Firstly, they may want all content to align with the game’s age rating.
Additionally, mods in Dragon Ball: Sparking! ZERO could create custom levels that are unbeatable for players without the necessary modifications, jeopardizing the gameplay experience.
Lastly, Spike Chunsoft will punish fans who regularly quit online matches. Players who repeatedly leave competitive matches will also face a ban.
